Beijing First Day Guide

Weather and clothing

Beijing weather is extreme. -10°C in January, 38°C in July, sandstorms in spring, and bone-dry winters. Check the forecast and pack accordingly.

What to do

  1. 1

Check the forecast the day before you fly and again when you land. Beijing weather can shift fast.

  2. 2

Put your arrival-day layer (coat, rain jacket, whatever) in your carry-on, not checked luggage.

  3. 3

Wear comfortable shoes. Train stations and airports involve a lot of walking.

  4. 4

Winter: bring lip balm and moisturizer (it's incredibly dry). Summer: sunscreen and water.

Double-check before you rely on this

  • Your arrival outfit works for the trip from terminal to hotel.

  • You've thought about rain, cold, heat, and walking distance.

  • Medication and comfort items are in your carry-on, not buried in checked luggage.
