Rules and services change. For anything important — entry, transport, payment, hotels, telecom — double-check with official sources before you travel.

Arrival point choices

Confirm whether your flight uses Beijing Capital (PEK) or Beijing Daxing (PKX), then check the terminal. Build the journey around that airport and your hotel’s exact branch.
  1. Check your airport code and terminal with the airline close to departure; do not infer the terminal from an old airline list.
  2. For PEK, compare the Capital Airport Express and official taxi or pickup options. For PKX, compare the Daxing Airport Express and that airport’s ground transport.
  3. If arriving by rail, save the full station name from your ticket. Beijing, Beijing South, Beijing West and Beijing North are different stations.
  4. Ask the hotel for the Chinese address, district and nearest useful station, including the final walk from that station.

Airport to hotel

The Capital Airport Express and Daxing Airport Express serve different airports. Compare the complete rail journey, including the final connection, against a taxi or pickup to your hotel.
  1. From PEK, check Capital Airport Express connections at Sanyuanqiao, Dongzhimen or Beixinqiao against your hotel station. Choose the useful interchange rather than automatically staying on until the end.
  2. From PKX, the Daxing Airport Express connects with the city network at Caoqiao. Check the onward route; the airport train alone does not take you to every central hotel.
  3. Read the current direction-specific timetable and fare before travel. Allow for immigration, bags, terminal walking and the final connecting train.
  4. If the full rail connection is uncertain, use the official taxi queue or a pickup you have confirmed. Show the hotel’s Chinese address and agree on the payment method before departure.
  5. For taxis, check the posted fare basis and ask about tolls or night charges. Use the actual route and current information rather than a fixed “city center” quote.

Weather and clothing

Check the forecast and any weather warnings for Beijing on your actual arrival day. Pack for the outdoor parts of the terminal-to-hotel journey, including queues and the final walk.
  1. Check the forecast shortly before departure and again on arrival, including weather warnings that may affect transport.
  2. Keep a suitable layer and any rain protection in your carry-on so you can reach them before opening your suitcase.
  3. Choose shoes you can walk in with luggage. Check whether the hotel route includes uncovered sections.
  4. If weather disrupts the route, ask the operator or hotel about current options rather than relying on a seasonal average.

First evening plan

Your Beijing first evening should be dead simple: check in, eat something nearby, charge everything, figure out tomorrow. That's it.
  1. Check in first. Everything else comes after you've dropped your bags and have a room key.
  2. Dinner: walk to the nearest mall food court, hotel restaurant, or convenience store. Don't cross the city.
  3. Charge your phone, power bank, and anything else. Tomorrow you'll need them all day.
  4. Before you sleep: save tomorrow's first destination and figure out how to get there.
