Hotel Check-In Guide
Deposit and payment backup
Many hotels ask for a deposit or pre-authorization at check-in. It's usually ¥200–500. Have more than one way to pay it.
What to do
- 1
Bring the card you booked with — some hotels want to see it at check-in.
- 2
Have your mobile wallet, a physical card, and some cash ready. If one fails, try another.
- 3
Not sure what they accept? Message the hotel before you arrive.
- 4
Keep a screenshot of any deposit receipt. You'll need it to get the money back at checkout.
Double-check before you rely on this
Your card supports pre-authorization holds (most Visa/Mastercard do).
You know roughly how much the deposit is and when you get it back.
After paying the deposit, you still have enough money for dinner and transport.
